Highlights from Leah's interview on AllBusiness.com

After a mention in the Chicago Tribune, I was contacted by Leslie Levine from AllBusiness.com. She did an email interview with me that she turned into a four part series on the site. Here are a few highlights, but I encourage you to read the whole interview.

Oh. And Leslie called me a Social Media Queen, I didn't make that up. I'm waiting for my tiara.

She kicked off the series by introducing the topic of social media and PR.

To ignore the phenomenon is inviting trouble if you’re in PR. But finding the best way to integrate social media into your publicity is key. How are you, dear readers, incorporating social media into your PR efforts? I know there’s discussion about the way social media can be used to stay in touch with journalists and I’d be interested in hearing about that as well.

Thinking About PR and Social Media (Again)

The next day she launched into our interview. You'll learn about why there is a double "i" in Natiiv, how I got the idea and why I think people are still puzzled by social media. Here's a taste.

If the site is hard to learn or doesn't make sense before you've connected to people, it can be frustrating and turn people off. Facebook is an example of a site that is confusing when you first sign up - now what do I do? And Twitter doesn't make sense when you first start using it either.

Getting Smart About Social Media

In the next section, Leslie asked me the million dollar question that we've all asked.

Recently, The Wall Street Journal had a piece about Twitter and the company’s goal to be generating revenue by the end of the year. It is stunning to me that a company that is so incredibly popular and pervasive (CNN twitters for goodness sake) isn’t making any money. What can you say about that?

Social Media Expert's Advice is Spot On

In the final post, Leslie crowns me the queen of social media. Like I said, I'm waiting for my tiara. Ahem.

How did a nice chemistry major like you end up in a place like this?

It was quite the long and winding road. I never did anything with my degree, other than put it on my desk. I was a residence director at a small college for a couple years, then a waitress and managed a sexual assault hotline. When I moved to Chicago seven years ago, I started working at a study abroad provider and they sent me to work in London for a winter.

Thanks again to Leslie for the great questions. Please take time to check out the series and her other posts on AllBusiness.com
