The Illinois CPA Society has brought Leah Jones to the headquarters twice to lead Social Media and the Job Hunt workshops. Over the course of the three hour workshop, she taught the room of seasoned professionals how to think about using LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and blogs in their job hunt. She also spent time working with them on their search skills and showing them how to automate as much of their searching as possible.
A few months after the first workshop, she heard from Manny Cole (on LinkedIn) that the class had helped.
“Leah lead a class at the Illinois CPA Society called “Social Media and the Job Hunt” which introduced the use of various social media (LinkedIn, Twitter, etc) and how to incorporate effectively into your job search. Within weeks of attending her course and incorporating her suggestions I received a exceptional job offer ...... THANK YOU LEAH!”
In the fall of 2007, Leah met Eric Benderoff at an industry lunch at Google. That chance interaction lead Eric, then a reporter at the Chicago Tribune, to write a feature about her unique job doing online conversation research. When Eric left the newspaper in 2009, he called Leah to brainstorm and eventually took a one-on-one lesson to sharpen his social media skills. Eric is now an editorial consultant and his expanded use social media helps him find new clients and grow their business.
"Leah's program was thorough, thoughtful and far more useful than I anticipated. Even though I was familiar with some of the content by virtue of my tech beat, Leah put a fresh spin on how to use and tap into the power of social media. I've used many of the techniques she showed me, impressing many people in the process. I consider Leah my social media tutor."
Scott Murphy was the Director of Technology at a post-production house when he sat down for a one-on-one lesson with Leah. The goal was to help Scott find ways to improve the company's online presence and learn how to focus his personal use of social media. Recently he looked outside of his career in technology and IT support and he is now the Corporate Blog Manager with Sears.
"I wanted to take a minute to thank you. Today I accepted the position of Corporate Blog/Social Networking Manager with Sears. Without some of the skills and training you gave me, I wouldn't have been as well qualified for this position. I appreciate the information and guidance you've given me."
