Took a year off.

A few years ago, I took a personal fiscal year off. I didn’t let myself off the hook of paying bills, but I let myself off the hook of making decisions. From July 1, 2003 to June 30, 2004, I made no major decisions. I decided that at the end of the year, something would shake out on top. It would be clear if I was meant to be 1) a study abroad professional 2) an ice cream maven 3) a writer/comic.

It was an exciting year. That was the year I was transfered to London for five months, started writing this blog and it was the year that I thought ice cream was the clear winner. That was the place I was wanted and valued. That was the place I had a clear future. Erm, we all know how that worked out… now I’m in PR and social media.

I took the year off of decisions, because I felt like I was forcing my life too much. It was too much work and nothing seemed to fit. I wasn’t just a square peg in a round hole, I was much more mismatched.
