About the event

"Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes..."

– Steve Jobs

"Be crazy, be a misfit, be a rebel, be a troublemaker, be whatever shape peg you want. Just please make a plan first."

– Leah Jones

Join a group of creative people with day jobs to build a plan of manageable (and aspirational) goals for 2019 through a series of writing exercises, guided discussion and big vision dreaming.

This is your chance to spend time with like-minded people and make a plan for the rest of your year. Do you want a new a full time job or more time on vacation? Do you want to grow your network or focus on the people in your life?

Use The Brunch Club to imagine different futures for your work, and your life, then set the goals and tasks it will take to get the future you want.

A continental breakfast will be served (gluten-free options available) with coffee at 9:30am and we'll serve a protein-packed break at noon. We will begin at 10am sharp.

The agenda and exercises are based on theories of behavior change and persuasion Leah studied during her Master's in Health Communication classes at Northwestern University. Leah has hosted a Goal Setting and Core Values workshops in Chicago to rave reviews.

Special guest Jacqui Cheng, Editor-in-Chief, Music of WQXR and former Editor-in-Chief of Wirecutter, will sit down for a fireside chat and answer questions about goal setting at Wirecutter, going through two acquisitions (Ars Technica by Conde Nast and Wirecutter by NY Times) and still finding time to learn the cello.

Leah Jones facilitates retreats of all shapes and sizes around the country. Before launching Natiiv Facilitation in 2018, she was a Vice President at Olson Engage - first in Social and Emerging Media and later in Healthcare Engagement. In 12 years of agency work, her accounts included Pizza Hut, McDonald's, GoPro, UnitedHealth Group, Cap'n Crunch and Dunder Mifflin. A former stand-up comic, Leah brings a light touch and no fear to the room - as long as you don't throw a chair at her.

Feedback from previous events:

Jocelyn, Founder: If you make a list of “shit-to-do” every year and never seem to make it past February, this will be an invaluable tool as you set out in 2019.

Stephanie, Entrepreneur: It was really wonderful getting to know you all - so inspired by each of you! Keep up the great work and thanks again for being a stellar facilitator, Leah!!

Kelly, Artist: I have never been to a retreat, professionally speaking, that actually felt useful or interesting. Leah, however, changed that for me!

FAQs

Will there be food served? Yes! Breakfast before we start and then a break around noon to keep you powered through the morning. Please email me if you have allergies or dietary restrictions that I should know about.

Is there anything tangible to take home? Yes! Everyone will take home a notebook with your writing exercises for the day, plus a chart that breaks your goals into tasks.

Have you done this before? Yes! I hosted this workshop in Chicago on Eve of the Eve to test the format with friends. I learned a lot and this agenda has already been changed based on the first workshop.

Why is this in Times Square? I'm from Chicago and to me Times Square says, "all the trains go there and it's central." I don't think I knew how much none of you want to go to Times Square on a Saturday, but I appreciate your willingness to make it happen.

If you can't join us this time and want to know about future workshops (DC, LA, Chicago, NYC, Tel Aviv), please sign up for my very occasional newsletter.
