Great Quotes

My new normal would be to tweet’em and forget’em, but these two short posts with quotes are two I don’t want to forget.

From Euan Semple a quote from Machiavelli, “It must be considered that there is nothing more difficult to carry out nor more doubtful of success nor more dangerous to handle than to initiate a new order of things; for the reformer has enemies in all those who profit by the old order, and only lukewarm defenders in all those who would profit by the new order; this lukewarmness arising partly from the incredulity of mankind who does not truly believe in anything new until they actually have experience of it.”

From Letters to an Unknown Audience, two Pentaptychs. Of the two, I love, “Five mysteries hold the keys to the unseen: the act of love, and the birth of a baby, and the contemplation of great art, and being in the presence of death or disaster, and hearing the human voice lifted in song.” from Salman Rushdie, The Ground Beneath Her Feet
