Okay, okay. We all know that I’m a sucker for good customer service and owner/bartender men. When Paul joined our table last night at the Candlelight Diner, I was smitten. It was like having Aaron Sinberg from Lady Falconburgh’s pull up a chair. Sigh. If I’d been standing, my knees would have gone weak.
Paul is the new owner of the Candlelight Diner on Western, just south of Howard. It is worth taking the 49B so far north–just for the Garlic Fries and Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae. But if you can get Paul to sit down and talk religion–even better.
Holding up the bar was Father Terry. Once upon a time, I had a few drinks with Father Terry at Simply Rays. It was more like drinking with a basketball coach than anything I’d imagined a catholic priest to be. I found out why last night. Father Terry played college basketball and then was in sales. At 37 god called him and he became a priest. Also at the bar was an ex-priest. A man who left the cloth for a woman, but later came out of the closet and left her for a man. Wild.
Thursday nights are Reggae nights, Saturday nights are Old School–motown and stuff for the 35-55 year old demographic. The menu is being revamped and the change will be finished by September 1 and a grand re-opening is taking place the Wednesday after March Madness ends. I’m not too sure when that is–maybe my brirthday?
Anyway get on the bus or flag a cab and get up to the Candlestick Diner.
