I was just hung-up on by the IRS Telefile service. Fair enough–but after confirming every button pressing option for the previous 15 minutes, I expected the good-bye to be something like this:
“You have now completed the IRS Telefile and I will be saying goodbye. If you are ready to end this call, please press one. If not, please press two.”
“You have selected one, indicating that you are ready to complete this call. If this is correct, please press one. If not, please press two.”
“You have selected one. This indicates that you understand that you have filed both your state and federal taxes and that you also understand that to make any ammendments you will have to begin a lengthly ammendment process on paper and using the United States Postal Service. Please enter your customer service number located at the top of the page to indicate that you legally understand the repurcussions of hanging up the phone.
“You entered XXXXX as your customer service number. If this is correct, please press one. If not, please press two.
“You have selected one, indicating that you are ready to complete this call. If this is correct, please press one. If not, please press two.”
Instead I got, “Thank you for filing your state and federal taxes. Good bye.” Then I waited for a press one or a press two. Nothing, just a dial tone. Well, okay then. I do have two ten digit confirmation numbers written in pencil and stapled to my W-2, so I guess I’m going to be okay.
