“Wars sickens me, even wars that I support. I support Israel’s offensive in Gaza, but watching it on TV — the images of bombed-out buildings, crying women and, inevitably, the bodies of innocent bystanders — is a painful experience.” Rabbi Eric Yoffie“Israel’s actions in Gaza are justified under international law, and Israel should be commended for its self-defense against terrorism. Article 51 of the United Nations Charter reserves to every nation the right to engage in self-defense against armed attacks.” Alan Dershowitz
Today marks the end of the first week of Israel defending herself against Hamas. Not against Gaza, not against the Palestinians, but against Hamas in Gaza.
I stand with Israel and believe in her right to defend her citizens.
Where can you go to get more information? I’m involved with a group in Israel called HelpUsWin.org. Help Us Win is trying to win hearts and minds for Israel. Israel has done a terrible job telling her side of the story, so we are stepping in to tell it.
This is the power of social media.
The site is place for supporters to go for more information, but we are also building FAQs, timelines, pages of aggregated news, aggregated video content, aggregated photos and even a way to donate your status on Facebook to the cause.
I’ll be getting active on Digg for the first time ever and digging stories that tell Israel’s side of the story, scanning HARO to find stories that we can pitch an Israeli angle to, and tagging content that I find on delicious with helpuswin. Those are places you can go to find stories written by people who are more eloquent than I about the matter.
If you have forgotten how I feel about Israel here are the postcards I wrote about Israel for her 60th. An essay I wrote about place which Israel figures into greatly. And if you think I don’t seek peace over war, please read posts from our small meme in 2006 – Shalom2006, A Vision of a World Redeemed.
